Cozido de Grão (chickpeas)
Cozido de Grão sort of means chickpeas stew. The word "cozido" really doesn't have a correct translation, because it is not quite a real stew.
In Portuguese cuisine you often find dishes named "cozido", because everything in that dish is boiled rather than braised or stewed. Try it!
- 400g chickpeas (soaked overnight)
- 150g bacon
- 500g cow meat
- 1/2 chorizo
- 200g green beans
- 200g pumpkin
- 250g potatoes
- 160g rice
- 1 bunch of mint
- salt to taste
Put a pan in the stove with the chickpeas and cover it with water. Add the meat, the bacon and the chorizo.
After you did so, cut the potatoes and the pumpkin in cubes. Add it to what you previously prepared, and let it boil.
When the meat are cooked, take it from the stove and let it cool. Chope it in pieces.
Wash the green bean, remove the tips, and strings, and add it to the stew. Season it with salt to taste. Add the mint to give it a taste. Take some of the water you used to boil the ingredients and put it in some other pan and cook the rice for about 15 minutes.
Serve the stew with the rice. Done!
