Algarve Holidays 2010
Algarve, the southernmost region of mainland Portugal, is a well known holidays destination for 2010. With only 410.000 inhabitants, spread by 5.412 square kilometres, Algarve more than doubles its population during the summer and special holidays.
The beaches are the biggest reason people go to Algarve for their holidays. Great weather, hundreds of kilometres os sand and warm water, from de Mediterranium Sea to the Atlantic Ocean.
Golf also bring a great number of tourists to the region. With almost 100 golf courses, from mini-golf to professional competitions, you will find the right one for you, wether you're a pro or just a beginner.
During the Moorish occupation, the region was referred to as "Al-Gharb Al-Andalus", meaning «the west», wich gave origin to Algarve.
This occupation is still visible in Algarve's day-to-day life, specially in architecture. Roman period also influenced buildings and other structures, many of wich still can be seen, although some are in ruins.
Along with Algarve's monuments, the surrounding nature also deserves a peek. From Sagres with it's beautiful ocean views, to Monte Gordo's mountain paths, not forgetting of course, Algarve's sunny beaches.
