Portugal reaches the 240th Blue Flag Beach
Fourteen new beaches recieved the Blue Flag, completing 240 beaches across the country, more than half the beaches officially classified.
To José Archer, president of The Blue Flag Programme in Portugal this record number of Blue Flagged beaches is due to the care and efford of all portuguese, that preserved the coastline.
"We have more than 50% of beaches with Blue Flag, which is a very good percentage. Portugal is by far one of the countries of southern Europe, with the highest percentage of beaches with Blue Flag", said Joseph Archer, for whom this is "the result of a great job" from all the people: entrepreneurs and other users.
The Algarve remains the region with the highest number of Blue Flags, with 69 Blue Flag beaches, and is also the region that increased the number of award winning beaches (by more than 15, only in 2009).
