Many Hotels in Algarve closed this Winter
Many hotels and resorts in Algarve chose to close in Winter time, this year, despite New Year's Eve, and the prespective for more visits than by the same time, in 2008.
Is common, in this time of the year, for hotels to close, due to low demand. But this time the phenomenon has reached a higher dimension, acording to Elidérico Viegas, the president of the biggest association of the region, the AHETA (Algarve's Hotels and resorts Association).
All points to an increase of the demand for Hotels in the end of the year. The fact that New Year's Eve is close to a weekend will enable people to go to Algarve and stay a couple more days than usual.
Acording to Viegas, this decrease will be mostly in resorts, rather than hotel rooms. And the areas more affected are Albufeira, Vilamoura, Portimão and Alvor, which represent 80 per cent of the turistic offer in Algarve.
